As per a report by LiveLaw, the Supreme Court refused bail on September 23 to Pintu Das, accused of posing as customer-service representatives for Flipkart, Amazon, Airtel and PhonePe, and impersonating the PM Kisan Yojana scheme, to defraud people under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. A bench of Justices J.B. Pardiwala and K. Vinod Chandran was hearing an appeal from a Jharkhand High Court order that had already rejected bail.

The court noted Das had three near-identical prior cases against him, which it treated as disqualifying despite his year in custody and a trial that had heard only one witness in that time. "Cyber crime is like an addiction, as it is all easy money," Justice Pardiwala remarked. Rather than let the slow pace of the trial count in the accused's favour, the bench directed that it be completed within six months — an unusually firm timeline that puts the burden of speeding up on the prosecution rather than freeing the accused meanwhile.
