As per a report by MediaNama, Instagram restricted access in India to a reel on LiveLaw's official account explaining the Election Commission of India's position in an affidavit filed before the Supreme Court in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The notice said, "We received a legal request to restrict this content." LiveLaw reports that the reel contained no critical commentary, that Instagram did not explain which law it allegedly violated or the nature of the request, and that the same video remained available on YouTube. LiveLaw updated its report on October 27 to say Instagram had restored the reel.

MediaNama notes that India has separate routes for restricting content, under Section 69A and Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Blocking Rules, 2009, but that Instagram's notice cited neither and named no requester, legal provision, order or reference number. It concludes that the available material does not establish which legal route, if any, led to the restriction. The report includes no statement from the government or Meta, and it does not say why the reel was restored.
