As per a report by MediaNama, the Delhi High Court on October 14 issued notice to the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs and GoDaddy on a petition by website owner Sriram Viswanathan over the suspension of chalosansad.in, a single-page site documenting the July 20 "Chalo Sansad" march against the NEET-UG paper leak. Justice Amit Mahajan granted no interim relief and listed W.P.(C) No. 15332/2026 for January 27, 2027, according to the Internet Freedom Foundation, which is assisting the petitioner. The petition says the domain was registered on July 19 and placed on "serverHold" on July 22, without notice, reasons or a hearing.
MediaNama reports that NIXI has cited four reasons: invalid WHOIS details (July 22), a "critical keyword" (July 24), that "Sansad" falls within a reserved "Constitutional Authorities" category (August 14), and the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950 (September 2). By September 18, it says, NIXI stated that it acted under contractual terms, not the 1950 Act, but required Central Government permission for restoration. The petition asks whether NIXI is a "competent authority" under the 1950 Act and whether a non-commercial information page is use "for the purpose of any trade, business, calling or profession," and seeks restoration and directions that NIXI publish procedures ensuring prior notice, reasons and a hearing before suspension.
