Chinese authorities have reported the removal of more than 5.61 million pieces of unlawful or rule-violating AI-generated content, along with action against more than 49,000 accounts and more than 2,400 websites and applications.
The enforcement activity targeted AI-generated false information, impersonation content, violent and vulgar material, and content affecting minors. Chinese authorities have also required platforms to implement both visible and embedded identifiers for AI-generated and synthetic content.
The campaign builds on China's broader AI regulatory framework, including the 2022 Deep Synthesis Provisions, which took effect in January 2023, and the 2025 Measures for Labeling AI-Generated Synthetic Content, which introduced additional labeling requirements from September 2025.
The scale of the latest enforcement activity demonstrates the increasingly active role of Chinese regulators in monitoring AI-generated content and enforcing platform obligations relating to synthetic media.
